September 2014 length update

Getting closer and closer to knee! :D

April 2014 and September 2014:

I had some braidwaves in my lower length (which might make the ends look a bit weird, too), and you can't really see where my knees are with this skirt, but until I take new length shots, these'll have to do for an update :) (click for larger pics)

Finishing with a sophisticated, state-of-the-art mirror shot with fake arrow markings xD

Hairtoy collection: Forks

*EDITED from time to time to update my collection*
Last edit: 13-12-20

Continuing with my hairtoys collection posts, today's post is about the hair forks! Forks have become my most used hairtoy alongside hairsticks. I use hairsticks for cinnamon buns and braided buns, and forks for my much-worn flipped-up bun. So far I've only tried double-prong forks, which are reasonably secure even with my fine-textured slippery hair, but I'd like to try three- and four-prong forks in the future as well.
March 2017 update: Thanks to Morrigan from the LHC Winter Swap, I now have a Jeterfork 3-prong and it works so well :D!  I've also tried 4-prong forks and also like them a lot :)

1- Small 2-prong metal fork with spiral top (Bijoux Brigitte). Doesn't hold all my hair, so it's either for decoration (action shot I below, featuring a braided Chinese bun) or for half-updos (action shot II below).
2- The fork I used the most in 2013-2016. Wood and 2-prong, from Bijoux Brigitte. Surprisingly sturdy and holds my slippery hair really well (action shot III, flipped-up bun).

3 and 4- Two wood 2-prong forks I got at a medieval fair. Action shots featuring flipped-up buns below:

5- From a Medieval Fair, a hairstick I forgot about in my hairstick list post, with a decorative dolphins top, and another 2-prong wood fork, which, being the most inconspicuous one I have, I use a lot when wearing flipped buns in cosplay with miniaml decoration (like the Tenth Doctor):

6- wood, 2-prong fork, this time curvy and decorated with some green stones. I find this fork very nice, but despite being curvy (which usually helps secure my slippery hair), this one doesn't work as well as the other forks I own. It's probably a bit too short, small and/or narrow. It works better on half-updos, though.

7 and 8- A lovely handmade TARDIS fork and copper fork which were part of the 2015 LHC gift swap:

I also use this fork as decoration:

9- A beautiful three-prong Jeterfork and a couple of metal bun pins, part of the 2016 LHC gift swap. These are some of the hairtoys I use the most, both the fork and the pins. The fork is now (2016 onwards) my go-to fork, and I wear it all the time for flipped buns. The pins I wear a lot both in braided buns with parandas, and as part of my 14th Century reenactment hairstyle!

9- A couple of the forks and the bun pins from before, from some new ones I got from the 2019 Winter Swap, which I usually wear in high updos -

10- Third from the left, a 4-prong Triskelion fork that I wear all the time in low cinnabuns. It holds really well, although sometimes it slides out thanks to my straight slippery hair, so I combine it with a couple of claw clips -

Hairtoy collection: Hairsticks (pic overload!)

*EDITED from time to time to update my collection*
Last edit: 1-12-20

Today's post is about the hairsticks in my collection, featuring a shameless pic overload! Hairsticks might be my favourite kind of hairtoy: I think they're versatile, easy to wear when you've got the hang of using them, and look beautiful in updos. What's not to love?

So here are the hairsticks I own to date, including some action shots. I got most of them at Medieval fairs, or on Etsy (it's pretty hard to find hairsticks on regular places, which is a shame). Click or open in new tab for bigger pictures.
1- Not a hairstick per se, but an unused pencil with an owl topper.

2 & 3- A curvy wood hairstick and a straight one with a curvy decorative top I got at a Medieval fair. Curvy hairsticks sometimes work the best for my fine-textured, slippery hair, I've found, although I often use straight sticks as well.

4- A pair of straight wood hairsticks/chopsticks, painted dark red and my very first pair of hairsticks. They hold surprisingly well despite them being really smooth.

5-
A German silver hairstick with a spiral top. I also got this at a Medieval fair.

Action shots (featuring one-coil Chinese buns, Chinese braided bun and Chinese rope-braided bun):

6- A broader, heavier wood stick with a curvy decorative topper, also from a Medieval fair.

Action shot (Chinese braided bun with paranda):

7- A pair of dragonfly-topped white hairsticks which turn bright blue in the Sun. From Aliarose on Etsy. Love them!

 Action shot (flipped bun):

8- A gorgeous silver plate and cobalt blue glass hairstick with detachable dangles which I got from Hairjems on Etsy.

-Half-up action shots:

-The Hairjems and Aliarose hairsticks, plus

9- A green ketylo (curvy hairstick) with a leaf topper. Definitely the most Elven hairstick I own! From Nightblooming on Etsy.

Action shot (flipped bun):

10- A simple pair of straight hairsticks which I got in a New Age/spiritual shop. They work surprisingly well.

Action shot (Chinese one-coil bun):

11- I already posted the pics of this LOTR One Ring Nightblooming stick earlier in this blog, but it's so gorgeous it deserves to be featured again :)

Action shot (cinnamon bun):

12 &13- Curvy light and dark wood hairsticks with decorative metal Celtic knotwork and dragonfly. From a medieval fair.

Action shot (cinnamon bun):

14- A Victorian-ish stick-fork with an amber crystal I got in a hair swap. It's not very functional for my hair because of the metal material and the length and weight, so I have hardly used it :S

15- A short red and blue wood stick I got as a gift with a purchase from Eaduard Hairsticks on Etsy.

Action shot (flipped bun):

16- An amazing wooden Gimli axe (AKCWoodworking on Etsy)
17-Purple acrylic stick (Eaduard Hairsticks on Etsy). This might be the haitstick I use the most, I absolutely love acrylic sticks!

Action shots (cinnabun):

18- Mini Spanish rapier (a letter opener xD):

19- Lightsaber hairsticks (originally chopsticks xD):

Action shots (rope-braided length-shotening updo, cinnabun):

20 and 21 (pair)- Handmade hairsticks, part of the 2015 LHC Winter swap:

Action shots (cinnabun, Chinese one-coil bun):

22 - Acrylic hairstick inspired by the TARDIS (Doctor Who), part of the 2017 LHC Winter swap:

Action shots (length-shortening braided paranda updo, braided paranda bun):

23 - Flaming sword hairstick, inspired by Aziraphale from Good Omens, part of the 2019 LHC Winter swap:

Action shots (cinnamon bun, braided paranda bun):

24 - Multicoloured wooden curvy hairstick from MorgansMane on Etsy (first pic on the left, second picture alongside the TARDIS stick):

Bonus group pic with some of these (xD):

And to finish, this is how I keep my longest hairsticks:
